The gameplay while improved greatly is also unfortunately way too easy and the levels are presented in a more simple linear corridor-based way that kills the run n gun aspect that made Spartan Assault enjoyable. It really is just the same game but not as good.. For me this game is a mixed bag. I liked Halo Spartan Assault enough to enjoy it, rate it up, and buy this game. I think I would change my rating to recommend if the save system was improved, it makes the game unnecessarily difficult once you get near the end.ProsGood graphics for the genre of top down shooters, with 144hz support.Good shooting and gameplay.Driving the warthog was cool.ConsWeak storyMostly the same weapons from Spartan Assault, and mostly the same enemies too.Horrid checkpoint system, many levels have none requiring you to play a trivially easy 5-10 minutes just to be defeated by a very difficult section and have to start the level all over. I feel like I’m playing an SNES game without a Game Genie. Difficulty is tough, and the game has no option to change this and no console commands to cheat this either. If you get stuck you’re stuck; probably won’t be an issue until near the end of the game.. Halo: Spartan Strike is a top down, twin-stick shooter set in the Halo Universe, taking place after the events of Halo 4. It is an indirect sequel to Halo: Spartan Assualt, developed by 343 Industries (who has taken over from Bungie making Halo games), and Vangaurd Games (who also worked on Halo:SA).The game works like your typical twin-stick shooter; your view of the game is from the sky looking down at your character and the surroundings, moving with one stick/hand (controller/Keyboard), and aiming with the other stick/mouse. I didn't play with keyboard at all, so I can't speak for how well it does or doesn't work, but plugging in my Xbox One controller the controls were great, and very responsive. Most of the time, you're tasked with going here, clearing out an area, or defending one, and then extracting. During some missions, you have access to various vehicles, a total of 6 playable, including one new to the series the UNSC Kestrel (Essentially, the UNSC equivalent to the Covenant Ghost). Also at your disposal are a healthy selection of 18 hand held weapons, from the UNSC, Covenant and Prometheans, and a few different armour abilities including stronger shields, a sentry turret, and many others.The story itself is pretty forgettable in my opinion; as I lose a lot of interest in the Halo universe when the Prometheans are mentioned. The game is made up of Operations, there are 5 total (A through E), and each operation contains 6 Missions each, thus there are 30 levels in total. I completed the game (will return for some clean up on achievements) in almost 5 hours on the mark. One operation takes place during the events of Halo 2, but the rest take place after the story of Halo 4. The levels themselves aren't hard at all, and there is no difficulty selection in the game. I only had died maybe 4 times through the whole thing, and had to replay 1-2 levels where I failed an objective. The game can however be made more difficult by activating a few different skulls on different missions that act as sort of a modifer. These add various interesting features such as; guns you pick up have less ammo, or you must melee enemies to regain shield, and a few others. During the missions, not only are you working on the in game objectives, but there is also a scoring system earning you stars on each mission (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Points are earned for each enemy killed, or getting medals and getting multikills. These serve no purpose other than to get you an achievement. The graphics look good, but won't blow you away. If you are familiar with Halo games, it looks as any other would, just from the sky; colourful and well thought out landscapes. As far as graphical options, you can only change the game resolution, or the Anti Aliasing. The game's requirements are pretty low by todays standards, and I can't imagine anyone having difficulty running this game. I personally experience no issues or stutter at all, even with other programs running in the back. The sound effects are good, and sound on par with that of the console games. There is little voice acting, but it is satisfying, but nothing award worthy.Pros Very fun game Easy to sit down and play, not a lot of thinking or difficulty Cheap to pick up Large variety of guns for a twin stick game Halo universe is always fun and interesting Mostly easy achievementsCons Only Single-player Although the game is lengthy for the price, there isn't a lot to go back for once you beat it Story is forgettable Prometheans are boringAll in all, the game is fun. It's a cheap game, easy to play through, and a very solid twin stick experience. While it doesn't add anything particularly new or exciting to the genre, it's solid enough on it's own to warrent trying out, especially since it's only a few bucks. Those who like the Halo universe, will find it even more enjoyable.. LIKED: more weapons, armour, vehicle and enemy variety DISLIKED:difficulty is all over the place, one minute you can be breezing through one missions and the next you will have a massive difficulty spike.Most weapons are completely ineffecitive and have a very small ammo capacity, leaving you constantly scrabbling for dropped ammo in the middle of one of the many defend objectives. Levels are shorter than the first game and makes the story feel delivered in a very stacarto manner as the next mission starts exactly where the last one left off.Overall: worth it if you really love the halo franchise otherwise play one of the many better games available. A decent second Halo game. Get the Spartan bundle.. A surprisingly faithful rendition of Halo within a top-down shooter environment. It may be but a meagre slice of the franchise that Microsoft is willing to give to the PC crowd, but even so, Spartan Strike and it's predecessor manage to feel like true Halo games thanks to their enemy, vehicle, and audio designs echoing the main entries in the Halo saga. The level design can at times be uninspired and unmemorable, but the addition of Promethean foes in Spartan Strike helps to mix up the gameplay throughout the fairly short campaign. Either way, it's still a mile better than Halo 4.. Final got this 100%.Game is fun and the price is way too low for a game that decent.Don't get me wrong, Fans of the halo series may question the lore and timeline of this game but they did step up and do improvements since Spartan Assault.The gameplay isn't bad and its well paced. But some of the Assault Ops are tedious as hell.Would Recommend 3.5/5 Stars. Worth the money and the time!. Controls are solid. Needs a run option. Gameplay is generally enjoyable. Lots of bugs with environment objects. Continue to get stuck and must restart mission.
